I have a hint. To upskill your sims quickly, move them into a house and make them build skills immediately. Don't bother furnishing, just buy the bookcase/art easel etc. (Also buy a toilet, and a good quality fun object to refresh their mood). Before midnight, when the items will devalue, and your sim will be wasted anyway, delete all the items, save the game and go to the neighbourhood screen. Evict and move in again! Your sims can build skills extremely fast before you start to really play, get a career etc.

That sounds like bad sim management to me! My hint is have one bathroom for every 2 sims in your house. Like if you have 3 Sims you should have one bathroom or 1 1/2 bath, but if you have 4 sims you should have 2 bathrooms.
