can you have a window on the roof

If youre talking about a skylight...I dunno...I wouldnt count it out. However you can have windows extending out of the roof, like on the second floor...I forgot what those types of windows are called.

Ive heard somewhere that you can have up to 4-5 stories on youre house, and i think after that you can add a basement room and an attic room. so you should be able to get a window in the attic room.

If you use the terrain editor to raise the ground and use the ground as your 1st lvl floor you can also have a split lvl 1st floor.

With a large enough lot and house, you could probably do split lvls on each floor. As long as you don't mind one side of the house looking like a mountain.
