The game tries to connect to the internet while playing, even though I'm not trying to download custom content! Why is this, and what can be done?

The game will look for patches and updates to the game automatically on the internet. If you're on a broadband connection you might not notice this, but it can annoy dialup users as the computer will (try to) connect to the internet continuously. You can prevent the game from checking for updates by using the "autopatch off" cheat. Press and hold Control and shift, then press C and release the buttons. Type "autopatch off" (or "autopatch -off", at the time of writing the exact cheats haven't been confirmed yet, type them without quotes) and press return. If it works, the game will not try to connect to the internet unless you try to download custom content through the game.
