I have the same problem during installation and it annoyes the **** outta me. I'm currently lending my disks to sum1 who can play it, but i've looked all over the internet and even sent a message to The EA I.T Technicians. This is what they replied with:

If you do not find any scratches, fingerprints, or marks of any kind on your CD, try renaming the InstallShield folder, located in C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield, to InstallShieldOld. Start the installation again to reinstall the InstallShield components with the newest version.

Hope this works, and if it does, email me:

I had the same kind of problem while I was on disk 3. I finally got it to install w/out a problem by just trying the dvd drive instead of the cd-drive. I have a hp pavilion a730n with a cd-rom drive and a seperate dvd writer/ cd-writer combo drive. That may help someone!

PROBLEMS WITH TRANSFER ERROR WITH INSTALLATION FOR "THE SIMS 2"

Hey,

Changing InstallShield to InstallShieldOld didn't work for me. It made no difference to the problem.

I've experianced the same error too. Well, similar. 90% through the installation on Disk4, an transfer error occured stating the following:

"A problem occured when trying to transfer the file 'TSData\Res\Locale\Czeh\Movies\ealogo_audio.movie' from the media.
Do you want to retry to copy the file, or cancel the installation?"
Each time I attempted to retry the message would repeatively reappear. The same would happen each time I attempted to install the game on my system.

I found a way to "solve" it on the Electronic Arts website (it didn't work for me, but hopefully will be of some use to you. I followed the first set of instructions to discover that not all the files in the "Temp" folder would delete, even when I ensured no other programs were running. Despite this I followed on with the second set of instructions and everything perfectly copied with the exception of a file named "Compressed" on disk 4 containing the MS_DOS file that wouldn't transfer. I'm still looking for ways in which to fix the installation and will update you if you wish.)

(from: http://eauk.custhelp.com/)

"If you receive an error message during the installation of The Sims 2, try emptying the contents of the Windows temporary directory. To do this:

- Double-click My Computer
- Double-click Local Disk (c:)
- Double-click Documents and Settings
- Double-click the folder marked with your Windows username
- Double-click Local Settings
- Double-click Temp

These are the temporary files stored on your machine. To delete them:

- Left-click on any file
- Click the Edit menu tab
- Click Select All
- Click the File tab
- Click Delete
- Click Yes when asked if you are sure you want to delete the files

If you recieve any further delete confirmations, click Yes to All

Once all files are deleted, try the installation again. If you are still having a problem with the installation, try copying the game disks on to your c:\ drive and then installing from there.

1. Double-click "My Computer".
2. Right-click on the Local Disk C and choose "Open".
3. Right-click inside the window and select New, and then Folder.
4. Name the folder "Disk Images" it is important that the name has a space in it.
5. Double-Click the new Disk Images folder to open it.
6. Right-click inside the window and select New, and then Folder
7. Name this folder Disk1.
8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 while substituting "Disk1" for "Disk2" and so on until there are 4 "Disk" folders followed by a number 1 through 4. it is important to note there must not be a space between "Disk" and the number.
9. Insert Disk 1 of The Sims 2 into your CD-Rom drive and if the autoplay starts, cancel it.
10. Double-click "My Computer" to open it.
11. Right-click on your CD-ROM drive and choose "open".
12. When you see the contents of the disk in the Window, click on edit at the top of the window and choose "Select All".
13. All the contents of the disk should now be highlighted, click on Edit at the top of the window again and choose "Copy".
14. Open the "Disk1" folder you created under c:\Disk Images , Click on Edit at the top of the window and choose Paste. This will copy the contents of the CD into the "Disk1" folder.
15. Repeat steps 9 through 14 for the remaining disks until you have copied each disk into its apropriate folder.
16. Once all the disks have been copied, remove ALL CDs from any drives.
17. Open the "Disk1" folder under Disk Images and double-click on "autorun.exe" to start the installation.

If the at any point the copy process fails, that would suggest that you have a faulty disk."

It's somewhat frustrating as the disk has been sucessfully installed when purchased a year ago on both my brother's computers (running on windows XP, modern Dell computers.) I have a brand new Dell with a Pentium 4 processor running with Windows XP and haven't experianced any problems until now. I have more than enough memory on my computer to support the game (as it's new so I haven't yet installed too many games, files or programs.) The disk has no obvious scratches so I'm confused as to what the problem is.
