My computer had to be reformated, and once i got it back, i needed to reinstall the sims double deluxe edition and unleashed. Thing is, i tried, and it popped up saying "serial number is not valid" how do i reinstall it?!

I tried the reg. that's when it asked for the serial number, i put it in and it gave me the "serial number not valid" window.

Make doubly sure that you aren't putting letters where numbers are and numbers where letters are in the serial number.

Common pitfalls:

0 and O (zero and the letter O)
1 and I (One and the letter I)
5 and S (Five and the letter S)
8 and H (Eight and the letter H)

Also make absolutely 100% sure that you have pressed the right keys in the first place. It's quite easy to accidentally press a key without it registering or press a key but end up entering any one of those around it on the keyboard. If the serial number worked before then you're obviously not typing it in correctly this time round.

Oh and another thing: Have you got the serial numbers mixed up between the two expansion packs? They're not interchangable.

I'm sure. I've got the double deluxe edition and unleashed. i have the double deluxe in and the entire serial code is numbers. i double checked and it still wouldn't take it.

I have the same problem, it gives me a pop-up saying "serial number is not valid" when I try to install The Sims Deluxe Edition.

I don't buy the explanation that 0 might be O and 1 = I and so on... because you can only enter 1,2,3,4...9,0 there and no letters. The serial box looks like:
xxxx-xxxxxxx-xxxxxxx-xxxx

The box is called "The Sims Double Deluxe" with 2 CDs of "The Sims Deluxe Edition", one CD with "House Party" and one with "Double Deluxe Bonus Content" It seems that I have to start with Deluxe Edition CD1 because thats the only one I can start a installation from... I got 2 serial keys, the one that is asked for first is "House Party Serial Number:" and the second one is for Deluxe Edition is my guess but I cant enter that one cause no letters and the format I mentioned above. The second serial that I have is of this format:
xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx

I don't think that The Sims has been installed on this Windows XP computer before and I don't find anything in the registry.

Hope this clears some things up about this problem and that there is a solution.

I have exact the same problem. I have tried to install on 2 different computers XP & Win98 and gets this problem. Has even been to the store and changed the cd:s. Thankfull for any kind of help.
