This happens to me too, I'm on a 56k dial-up connection. Are you?

What I think happens is the autoupdate function built into the game automatically checks for updates as per its name. It's on by default.

But this is useless for dialup users as by the nature of this connection it ties up the phone line as opposed to ASDL/Broadband which is an always-on connection so it has a use for this function.

Therefore I can only assume that the game looks for a broadband modem and/or connection and if it doesn't find one or the other, turns the auto-dial off so the game won't go online to look for any updates but it won't turn it back on again afterwards.

Anyway, the setting is irrelevant in Windows XP in my experience because you'll be prompted anyway when the system wants to go online regardless of that setting which is intended for what the system should do when it wants something on the internet and isn't connected.

I've tried connecting to the internet before playing the game and leaving it on but it still doesn't work. It even changes it on Body Shop. I do have broadband though. any suggestions?
