i just downloaded transmogifier, how do u change the item's appearance?

Clone it and work on the cloned copy with a graphics utility such as Paint Shop Pro.

Any graphics program will do, though you'll find Paint too limited to be of any use.

There are many copious graphics programs out there, some of which are free - Google for them.
