Anyone have any problems with playing Sims2 on a notebook instead of a desktop?

It worked find at the beginning but lately it will freeze up. The music is still playing but the game won't move. It happens at different times: during neighborhood view, while creating a sim, or sometimes it will lock up before it even begins. Someone told me to change the video settings, do you think that might work?
