Well if you go to thesims2.com and you look at the slide show thing when the dude was cheating on his wife, he was eating cereal. So I guess they can

yes apparently there will be different options for each meal, and depending on your cooking skill. i think kids should be able to make cereal too though. did anyone see the slide of the neat man and the slob man where the slob's cereal was getting everywhere?

Yes they can. There are lots of things to prepare. Some examples: Hamburgers, omelets, chili con carne, lobster, turkey, salmon..
